It's difficult to take it all in but it includes significant development. Key features would be:
Of course it is important to note that this is only what developers want to do, it is for North Somerset Council to decide which (if any) of these sites will be allowed. In addition, all this land is in the Green Belt which gives it extra protection. However, given the size of the housing allocation being imposed on us by central government North Somerset Council is being forced into considering development in the Green Belt and/or in areas subject to flooding.
If you want to know more I have set up a dedicated page on my website to monitor the development of the North Somerset Local Plan. It also includes lots of background information as to why all this is being done. If you have a specific concern please feel free to contact me.
If you would like to receive updates about these developments, the North Somerset Local Plan, and other local news stories please subscribe to my newsletter.
Other areas around Long Ashton are also facing the possibility of large developments. At the end of January I reported on the proposal for a 500+ house development in Failand.
The map below shows the potential for development in the wider areas surrounding Long Ashton. You can clearly see the development at Failand as well as the significant sites between Wraxall and Nailsea as well as between Flax Bourton and Backwell.
At the moment North Somerset Council is considering all the sites. Which sites the council allows development on will be set as a part of the local plan process. We expect to hear which sites have been chosen towards the end of 2021.
