It has been a long battle to ensure that parking available in Leigh Woods is split fairly between all users and that adequate provision is made for residents.
As reported in my previous
article (which details some aspects of the scheme) the residents parking scheme was approved by the Executive of North Somerset Council last October for implementation.
I was told late last year that the full scheme would be implemented by late spring / early summer this year. Sadly this has not happened. However, I have been working to get the council to agree to a timetable for implementation.
I am pleased to say that we now have a provisional timetable.
- Starting immediately I will be consulting with local groups and individuals, in particular I would like to hear feedback following the introduction of yellow lines last year as well as comments on the proposals as previously published.
- By 1st June the council plans to issue the current plans on its website along with other guidance. North Somerset Council will also write to all residents, informing them of the plans.
- All feedback will then be collated and, if appropriate, minor amendments made to the proposals already published. By the end of June or early July a Traffic Regulation Order ('TRO') will be issued - this represents the formal legal consultation process that will last for 3 weeks.
- After the TRO period ends there may be further small amendments, though amendments can only be to relax not tighten restrictions.
- During August (early September latest) residents will be notified as to how to apply for a residents parking permit.
- Work to implement the scheme will be undertaken late September or early October.
I appreciate that many residents are frustrated by the delay, I share your frustration. Nonetheless, I have been working on this and now hope we have a firm timetable.
