Planning Application submitted to change use from pub to single home

North Somerset Council has received an application to convert the former BattleAxes into a single family home.

There has been speculation sometime as to the future of the building since a 'for-sale' sign appeared a few months ago. The application, which can be viewed by clicking here, shows floor plans and seeks permission to change the use of the building.

It only a few years since the pub was extensively refurbished. However, it was sold in August 2019 to Country Pub Group together with the Castle Inn in Bradford-upon for a reported combined price of £300,000. Country Pub Group went into administration last August resulting in the pub being put up for sale.

A number of comments, both in support and against, have been forwarded to North Somerset Council and can be viewed here on the Council website. These comments reflect the sadness at the loss of a local amenity as well as relief that at least something is going to be done with the building and it is not going to be left to fall into disrepair.

The Parish Council considered the application at its meeting of 6 May. Of the 11 councillors present 8 voted to object to the application, 2 voted against objecting and 1 abstained. The objection submitted to North Somerset Council was on the grounds of loss of local amenity as well as insufficient efforts being made to market the property as a public house/restaurant.

At the time of writing no decision has been made on the planning application.
